Why Mount Union?

My older sister Alison Caldwell (Class of 2018) attended here and recommended that I visit during my senior year of high school. At the time, I was interested in playing collegiate soccer and was recruited to play my senior year. I also wanted to stay close to home and go to a school that had an engineering program. Mount Union checked all three of the boxes I was looking for and I chose to attend! My ultimate career goal is to receive my PhD in Physics and use computational methods to research topics in Quantum Information/Condensed Matter. UMU is preparing me for this through rigorous coursework and a strong emphasis on communication skills.

Impactful Faculty

Dr. Bob Ekey and Dr. Colin Campbell have made a large impact on my UMU experience. Dr. Ekey was the one who encouraged me to pick up Physics as a major during my freshman year. Dr. Campbell is my academic advisor and was the one who encouraged me to study Data Science/Analytics in addition to Physics. The faculty in Physics (Dr. Butler, Dr. Campbell, Dr. Cederbloom, and Dr. Ekey) and Data Science (Dr. Butler and Dr. Campbell) are great professors and great people!

Advice for Future Students

Make sure you do a campus visit to every school you are considering! I had a great campus visit to Mount Union, and it was a big part of my decision to attend. Also, don't be afraid to ask current students about their involvements/experiences!
