Emily Baumgardner '14: Hometown:West Chester, Ohio; Major:Chemistry; My grandparents are alumni of Mount Union and are still very active on campus. I grew up with the University, wearing Mount Union hoodies in elementary school and getting Raider gear every year for Christmas. I actually chose to attend Mount Union partially because my grandparents live nearby and the closeness of the campus community. I knew I would get more out of an education if I could have the type of one-on-one relationships with professors that Mount Union offers.

Zak Suhar '13: Hometown:Cedarburg, Wisconsin; Major:Business and Spanish; Mount Union gives you all the necessary tools and guidance to excel. Use the resources offered to exercise your passion.

Courtney Reese ’15: Hometown:Cleveland, Ohio; Major:Marketing; I chose to attend Mount Union because of the small class sizes and the one-on-one attention students receive from professors. At the University, you aren’t just a number. Professors really care about you and your progress in and outside of the classroom. They also are really approachable and personable.

Tyler Wiersma ’13: Hometown:Perry, Ohio; Major:Psychology; My favorite class has actually been Introduction to Psychology. When I came to Mount Union, I didn’t really know what I wanted to major in, but after taking this class I knew I wanted to learn more. I thought it was fascinating to learn about the prominent psychologists throughout history and the methods they used to get their results. It was like dipping a toe in the water before jumping in.

Julie Amabeli ’14: Hometown:Alliance, Ohio; Major:Accounting; Ruth Pogacnik, assistant professor of economics, accounting and business administration, has by far been my favorite professor at Mount Union because she took accounting topics that could easily be boring to people and made them fun and exciting! She is my advisor, so she is doing a wonderful job keeping me on track with all of my classes as well as offering me sound advice. She was also very supportive of my decision to minor in art. She’s a fantastic teacher who wants me to excel in my major and life in general.

AJ Shadrach ’13: Hometown:Montgomery, New Jersey; Major:Physics; My favorite professor at Mount Union is Dr. Bob Ekey, assistant professor of physics and chair of the Department of Physics. He’s also my advisor, and I like the fact that I get to work with him every semester by helping him teach Introduction to Physics labs. Dr. Ekey also is on the pre-health professions committee and has given me a lot of advice as it pertains to preparing for the MCAT and applying to medical school.

Kelly Slutz ’14: Hometown:Smithville, Ohio; Major:Spanish and Sociology; When I was in high school, I knew I wanted to attend a college that had strong academics, recreational opportunities and lots of different ways to get involved. I also wanted to attend a university that was committed to the environment and the community, and I felt like all of these things were important at Mount Union.

Austin Raper '13: Hometown:Uniontown, Ohio; Major:Biochemistry; I chose to attend Mount Union because I believed, and still do, that Mount Union would go the furthest in helping me achieve my goals.
