ALLIANCE- This year the University of Mount Union gave Raiders Cove, student resource center a new home in the basement of van den Eynden Hall on campus. Throughout the summer, students worked to transform the basement into the resource center for students to enjoy throughout the academic year.
Raiders Cove provides students with the opportunity for free food and hygiene products, school supplies, and affordable clothing products. After registering for the semester, students receive their food needs through a points system, providing 20 points a week for their shopping needs. Grab and go snacks can also be found around campus for students to take with them.
Hygiene products and school supplies are free of charge or points for students. Clothing options range from t-shirts, jeans to professional attire for students. Clothing is distributed by donation making it affordable for students.
The resource center is overseen by AmeriCorps members Kaylee Adkins, Jessica Roberts, Sarah Conley, and Jacob Buttar through the Ohio Campus Compact program. Regula Center Director Abby Schroeder serves as the supervisor for the center with student employees also contributing at the center.
This fall Raiders Cove received support from members of the Board of Trustees who donated more than $12,000 to provide meal tickets for students. Students can visit the center five days a week: Monday-Thursday from 3-8 pm and Friday from 9-2 pm. Raiders Cove will also offer rides to local stores this fall and continuously look for ways to eliminate barriers for students.
