University of Mount Union Theatre presents “Voir Dire” October 4-7

The University of Mount Union’s Department of Theatre will feature the drama “Voir Dire” from Thursday, October 4 – Sunday, October 7. 

The play, written by Joe Sutton, will be directed by Mount Union Department of Theatre chair, Kevin P. Kern.

The acting ensemble includes Abbi Collinsworth ‘22, Naimah Coleman ‘21, Kayla Cordle ‘22, Rose Morrison ’22, Alex Murdoch ‘21, Robbie Rush ‘22, Kerstin Vaughn ‘19 and Brooke Zucco ‘21. Chris Tucker ’19 will serve as Stage Manager and Ashton Carr ’22 as Assistant Stage Manager.

“Voir Dire” tells the fictional story of six jurors who are sequestered, and forced to confront charges of racism, a broken judicial system and their own biases, as a man’s reputation hangs in the balance.

Following each performance, there will be a talkback where the audience can hear from various experts as they discuss themes of the play through the lens of their unique specialization. Attorney Jeff Jakmides will speak after Thursday’s performance, Dr. Bryan Robinson of Mount Union Department of Sociology and Criminal Justice on Friday, retired Justice Robert Lavery on Saturday and Ronald Holden, Mount Union Director of Diversity and Inclusion on Sunday.

All performances will take place in the Gallaher Theatre in the Giese Center for the Performing Arts. The Thursday, Friday and Saturday performances will be at 7:30 p.m. and the Sunday matinee will take place at 2 p.m.
