Why Nursing?

I chose nursing as my major because I lost my father at a really young age and this event made me realize that I want to help others the way professionals in the healthcare field helped him and his family. I want to be the nurse that my future patients rely on and be the person who gives their all to help her patients reach a state of well-being. Learning opportunities that I have taken from the University of Mount Union include conducting an in-person head-to-toe assessment. This is one of the favorite hands-on opportunities in the classroom that I’ve done because I was able to professionally present myself as a nursing student to another person other then a mannequin and perform my skills. My ultimate career goal is to be able to help my community as a nurse and Mount Union is providing me support and guidance through my professors, peers, and my work ethic.

Mount Union Impact

I heard about Mount Union from someone I went to high school with and I chose to attend the University of Mount Union because of their nursing program- it is one of the best ones. There’s many things that Mount Union does to make campus feel like a second home. One of those reasons is the friends that I’ve made on this campus!

Overcoming Obstacles to Achieve Success

In college, I have had to overcome a lot of situations and feelings. One thing that I am grateful to have overcome during my college experience is being able to talk to my professors about struggles that I’m having in the class. I've learned to ask for help when I need it. I was able to put my fears of being judged or feeling like I’m not smart enough aside. My professors make me feel good about reaching out for help and making me feel like it’s a safe place. I would like to thank Dr. Sheryl Mason, professors Cook, Corbisello, and professor Schwendiman for giving me the confidence to succeed in my academic career. My professors have taught me how to do better as a college student and how to overcome obstacles during my collegiate career. I couldn’t thank these professors enough for how much they have truly impacted me!
