Becoming a Raider

Alliance has been my home all my life and I have always known that one day I would go to school here. I loved the smaller class sizes and all the opportunities that the nursing program offered. The beautiful campus was a bonus. I was grateful to receive the Investment Alliance Scholarship. My advice for choosing the perfect university would be to explore all your options, both where to go and what to study. There are so many different majors and don't feel rushed to pick one right away. Find the one that best fits you and that you will enjoy studying.

A Major in Nursing

I chose nursing as my major for two reasons. I have always enjoyed science classes and the nursing major is full of them. I also knew that I wanted a major that would allow me to help other people. Nursing combined both of those and I knew immediately it would be the right fit for me. Nursing has offered me many experiential learning opportunities. The labs we have to practice clinical skills are modern and have proved to be a great learning tool before we started our clinical experience. We have also been fortunate enough to continue in-person clinical at a variety of hospitals near Alliance. These have been such a help not only in getting real world experience, but further enhancing what we learn in the classroom.

Experiences at Mount Union

The Integrative Core has been extremely beneficial in helping with my oral presentation skills and communication skills in general. It allowed for me to be more comfortable talking in front of people, which has helped me tremendously in communicating with actual patients in the hospital setting. My time at Mount Union is also helping me prepare for my dream job by allowing me to build a strong foundation in the field of nursing. My ultimate career goal is to be a nurse practitioner. I've had so many real-world opportunities that have allowed me to learn and grow. I feel confident in saying that the education I received here will prepare me for a career right after graduation.
