    1. Best Colleges

      Colleges of Distinction

      The University of Mount Union has been named one of the nation’s Colleges of Distinction. The annual process of selecting the nation’s Colleges of Distinction requires that institutions adhere to the “four distinctions” — engaged students, great teaching, vibrant community, and successful outcomes. This process also includes a review of each institution’s freshman experience, general education program, strategic plan, alumni success, satisfaction measures, and more.

      U.S. News and World Report

      This year, U.S. News and World Report ranked Mount Union 11th among regional colleges in the Midwest, which includes the states of Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota and Wisconsin. This is the 27th consecutive year that Mount Union has appeared in this annual listing of the best colleges and universities.

      Furthermore, Mount Union was recognized among “A+ Schools for B Students” by U.S. News and World Report, ranking 10th in the Midwest Regional Colleges category.

      Washington Monthly

      Mount Union was ranked 93rd in the nation among top baccalaureate colleges and universities in Washington Monthly’s 2017 rankings. According to Washington Monthly's website, schools in this category are ranked based upon their contribution to the public good in three broad categories: social mobility (recruiting and graduating low-income students), research (producing cutting-edge scholarship), and service (encouraging students to give something back to their country).

      Forbes

      Mount Union was ranked among the top four-year, accredited private and public colleges and universities nationally by Forbes in its 2017 America’s Best Colleges ranking. Mount Union ranked 589, up 15 spots from 2016.

      The Wall Street Journal/Times Higher Education 

      The University of Mount Union has been ranked among the top third colleges and universities nationally included in the The Wall Street Journal/Times Higher Education College Rankings. Among the more than 1,000 institutions included in the ranking, Mount Union ranked 385 in the nation.

      The University of Mount Union was ranked in the top third in the nation for quality in College Factual's 2018 rankings. 

      Niche

      Niche ranked Mount Union in the top 23% in the nation and 12th in Ohio among the Best Small Colleges. Niche also cited Mount Union as a Top Private University in America and among the Best Colleges in America.

      Accounting
      Mount Union's accounting program was ranked #2 in Ohio, #9 in the Great Lakes region, and #32 in the nation for best value in College Factual's 2018 rankings. The program was also cited among institutions with high-quality accounting programs.

      Mount Union's biology program was ranked #1 in Ohio, #8 in the Great Lakes region, and #37 in the nation as a best value in College Factual's 2018 rankings.

      Computer Science
      Mount Union's computer science program was ranked #3 in Ohio, #9 in the Great Lakes region, and #47 in the nation as a most popular program in College Factual's 2018 rankings.

      Criminal Justice
      Mount Union's criminal justice program was ranked #1 in Ohio, #4 in the Great Lakes region, and #8 in the nation as a best value in College Factual's 2018 rankings. The program also was ranked #6 in Ohio and #16 in the Great Lakes Region for quality and #6 in Ohio and #18 in the Great Lakes region for the highest paid graduates.

      Mount Union’s Department of Education was ranked #2 in Ohio, #6 in the Great Lakes region, and #18 in the nation as a best value in College Factual’s 2018 rankings. The department also was ranked #6 in Ohio and #21 in the Great Lakes region for quality and #12 in Ohio and #37 in the Great Lakes region for the highest paid graduates. The department’s programs also were cited among institutions with the most popular and most focused programs. The department’s intervention specialist program was ranked #1 in Ohio, #5 in the Great Lakes region, and #11 in the nation as a best value. The intervention specialist program also was ranked #5 in Ohio and #17 in the Great Lakes region for quality, #5 in Ohio and #17 in the Great Lakes region for the highest paid graduates, and #11 in Ohio and #23 in the Great Lakes region for focus.

      Mount Union's Department of English was ranked #16 in Ohio as a most focused program in College Factual's 2018 rankings.

      Finance
      Mount Union's finance program ranked #2 in Ohio and #6 in the Great Lakes region as a best value in College Factual's 2018 rankings.

      Geology
      Mount Union's geology program was ranked #6 in Ohio and #12 in the Great Lakes region as a best value in College Factual's 2018 rankings.

      Health and Physical Education
      Mount Union's health and physical education programs were ranked #1 in Ohio, #9 in the Great Lakes region, and #20 in the nation as a best value in College Factual's 2018 rankings. They also were ranked #1 in Ohio, #4 in the Great Lakes region, and #33 in the nation as most focused programs. In addition, programs were ranked #6 in Ohio and #21 in the Great Lakes region for quality and #9 in Ohio and #34 in the Great Lakes region for popularity.

      Mount Union's management program was ranked #10 in Ohio and #32 in the Great Lakes region as a best value in College Factual's 2018 rankings. The program was also cited among institutions with the highest paid graduates.

      Mount Union's marketing program was ranked #10 in Ohio and #25 in the Great Lakes region as a most focused program in College Factual's 2018 rankings. 

      Psychology
      Mount Union's psychology program was ranked #3 in Ohio, #7 in the Great Lakes region, and #45 in the nation as a best value in College Factual's 2018 rankings.

      Public Relations
      Mount Union's public relations program was ranked #7 in Ohio and #22 in the Great Lakes region as a most focused program in College Factual's 2017 rankings. The program was also cited among institutions with the highest paid graduates.

      World Languages and Cultures
      Mount Union’s Department of World Languages and Cultures was ranked #2 in Ohio, #7 in the Great Lakes region, and #51 in the nation as a best value in College Factual’s 2018 rankings. The department was also ranked #5 in Ohio and #31 in the Great Lakes region as a most focused program. The department’s Japanese program was ranked #1 in Ohio, #1 in the Great Lakes region, and #12 in the nation as a most focused program. Its French and Spanish programs (romance languages) were ranked #1 in Ohio and #7 in the Great Lakes region as a best value and #5 in Ohio and #31 in the Great Lakes region as a most focused program.

      Niche ranked Mount Union in the top 31% in the nation and 14th in Ohio among Best Colleges for Business.

    3. Return on Investment

      Washington Monthly

      Mount Union was ranked in Washington Monthly’s 2017 “Best Bang for the Buck” listing in the Midwest category. According to the organization’s website, the rating was based on “net” (not sticker) price, how well institutions do graduating the students they admit, and whether those students earn enough, after graduation, to pay off their college loans.


      College Factual

      The University of Mount Union has been cited as one of the Best Colleges for the Money in College Factual's 2018 rankings. The University was ranked #3 in Ohio, #18 in the Great Lakes region, and #80 in the nation. The institution also was ranked #2 in Ohio, #6 in the Great Lakes region, and #59 in the nation in College Factual’s Best Affordable Colleges and Universities for International Students listing.


      Educate to Career

      Mount Union has been ranked for economic value by Educate to Career in its 2018 ETC College Rankings Index. This ranking quantifies and compares colleges’ and universities’ records for improving the labor market outcomes for students.

    4. Sustainability

      Princeton Review's Guide to Green Colleges

      The University has been included in the Princeton Review's Guide to Green Colleges for six consecutive years.

      STARS

      Mount Union received a silver rating from the Sustainability Tracking, Assessment & Rating System (STARS). 

      Arbor Day Foundation

      The University has been cited for seven consecutive years with Tree Campus USA recognition by the Arbor Day Foundation in honor of the institution’s commitment to effective community forestry management. 

      Sierra Club

      Mount Union has been ranked among the most environmentally-sustainable institutions in the nation in the Sierra Club’s 2017 Cool Schools listing. 

    5. Athletics

      Learfield Sports Directors Cup

      Mount Union finished 18th in the nation in the final 2016-2017 Learfield Sports Directors Cup NCAA Division III standings as the highest ranked NCAA Division III institution in Ohio.

      Niche

      Mount Union was ranked in the top 9% in the nation and 9th in Ohio among Best Colleges for Athletics. The institution was also ranked in the top 18% in the nation and 15th in Ohio among Best Colleges for Student Athletes.

      Financial Health 
      In Forbes’ 2017 review of the financial health of private not-for-profit colleges, Mount Union earned a B grade based on nine components in two categories – balance sheet strength and operational soundness – plus certain other factors including admission yield, percent of freshmen receiving institutional grants, and instruction expenses per student.

      Grateful Graduates Index
      Mount Union ranked 190 in the nation in Forbes’ Grateful Graduates Index, which ranks private, not-for-profit colleges with more than 1,000 students by analyzing media private donations and gifts per student over 10 years.
