Nursing major

Discovering Mount Union

I found out about Mount Union because of their track and field program, as well as friends who were current students. I was recruited by the pole vault coach here and he was a big reason for my decision to attend Mount. Overall, I loved the atmosphere, facility, and staff when I came on my visits. Everyone was super inviting and I never felt out of place when I was on campus. The nursing program here at Mount is very superior, which was also a big factor in my decision. I was thankful to receive the Dean’s Scholarship to attend school here.

Picking the Right School for You

A huge piece of advice I would give to someone in high school would be to visit every school you’re interested in. You want to be able to feel at home and comfortable with the school you choose. If you visit a campus that doesn’t feel like home, that is a sign that it might not be for you. Mount Union feels like a second home to me because of the students, staff, coaches, and friends I have met. Everyone is like family and that is what makes being here so fun. Another important piece of advice I would give is to look at more than just the academic parts of universities. In the end, you are attending school for an education, but you should still want to have fun while you are there. You want to be involved in extracurriculars to take a break from the classroom.

Why Nursing?

I choose nursing as my major because it was something I have always been interested in. I want to be able to give back to others in the ways I was helped when I was sick. I want to make a change and impact on other people’s lives. My ultimate career goal would be to become an orthopedic nurse practitioner with a focus in sport medicine. Mount Union is preparing me for that by guiding me through how to become a good nurse and then leading me in the direction I need to go once I acquire those skills. Mount Union prepares its students for the real world and holds us to high standards, which helps us achieve the goals we have set. Mount Union’s Integrative Core will make me a better professional in the field of nursing. It is helping me think critically as well as develop social and professional skills. I am better at public speaking and writing, which are things I might not have improved in the nursing program.
