Van

Vince Van ‘14

Born and raised in Miami, Florida, Vince Van learned early the values of fearless leadership, compassionate advocacy, and service from his parents. As such, he became involved in organizations to change the trajectory of his local community. Vince graduated from Mount Union with a Bachelor of Arts in public relations. At Mount, Vince served as the president of the Black Student Union during the height of the Trayvon Martin murder investigation. It was during this time that Vince developed a deeper passion for civic engagement. Vince went on to serve as the first student intern for the City of Alliance Mayor Alan Andrean. Curious about the intersection between theology and public service, he matriculated to the Howard University School of Divinity School and obtained his Master of Divinity (M. Div) in 2017. He maintained the values learned – hard work, discipline, respect, and service – to support Florida Avenue Baptist Church (FABC) as an ordained reverend and DC National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) as the religious affairs committee chair. Outside of ministry, Vince worked as a White House intern in the Office of Presidential Correspondence under the Obama administration. As the current associate pastor at FABC, Vince empowers people from both a theological and community standpoint. He also serves as a proud program and volunteer coordinator for Jubilee Jobs, a job placement organization for at-risk individuals in Washington, DC. Since being elected in November 2020, Vince works as the advisory neighborhood commissioner for Washington DC’s 7C03 district. He remains a proud husband to Khadijah Brydson-Van and father to his twin boys Karter and Virgil Van.
