Choosing Mount Union

During my college search, I spoke with a lot of my high school teachers whom I admired. Most went to Mount Union, so I went on a visit of the campus and fell in love. I chose to attend Mount Union after talking with my high school golf coach, who also attended Mount Union, and he helped me decide that Mount Union was the right fit for me. Then I met with Coach MacDuffie, and he showed me around the campus and told me about the Sport Business major and how all the professors excelled in this major. I found it very interesting and knew that I did not want to attend college anywhere else.

Close-Knit Feel

Mount Union is a small university, so there is a strong connection between professors and students. At Mount Union, the professors really care about you and how you are doing. As a student, you are not just another number. I feel very honored to have professors that really want to see me succeed in life and will help me with almost any problem I have. I also love the small campus feeling. I grew up in a small town and graduated with 64 students, so I really enjoy the small campus and knowing most of my classmates.

The Right Fit

The advice that I would give to prospective students is to find a university or college that really values them as a person and not a price tag. Find somewhere that you love and where you can see yourself excelling in your schoolwork and community.

Favorite Spot on Campus

My favorite place at Mount Union is the B & B Café—not only because of the delicious food, but also because it is a nice place to just relax and meet with friends. There are always events going on in Campus Grounds, so it is fun to just sit with friends, eat some amazing food and watch the event take place.

Preparing for Success

Mount Union is preparing me for success by giving me as many opportunities as possible. Dr. Thoma of the Sport Business department sends all Sport Business majors emails regarding possible jobs, internships and job fairs. I feel as though I will be very prepared to face the real world after I graduate.

Unique Major

I chose Sport Business as my major because when Coach MacDuffie first introduced me to the major, I was very interested. I have played sports my entire life, and I was very excited to learn about the “behind-the-scenes” aspects of sports.

Hands-On Experiences

My favorite hands-on experience in my major was the Cavs Sales Project for SPB 230. In this project we were able to sell discounted tickets to friends, family and Mount Union groups. This was my favorite project because it taught me a lot about sales. Also, this project had many incentives, and our class set the new sales record. I was able to come in second and am now in the top nine for tickets sales of all time.

Valuable Professors

My favorite professor is Dr. Braa. She has shown me that it is okay to not know exactly what you want to do after school. However, after she found what she loved, she has become very passionate about it. I aspire to be like her one day and love what I do while helping others in the process.

Liberal Arts Benefits

The benefits of a liberal arts education is that you get to explore areas that you would never have thought of before. This education expands your horizons and your intelligence. I have been able to learn about classical music, the country of France and many other things all while learning about Sport Business.

Career Goals

My ultimate career goal would be to own my own golf course. I would like to manage a course and host events there. I am very interested in the venue management side of Sport Business, and I believe this will help me own a course one day.
