Early childhood education major

Choosing Mount Union

I first learned about Mount Union when my brother was looking at schools, and then again two years later at a college fair held at my high school. While talking to the people at the college fair, Mount Union seemed like a campus that was positive and a good choice for me. After visiting, I really loved the atmosphere and the people I saw on campus. It felt like home. I also saw that they had a really great cheerleading program which was a bonus for me. I was fortunate to receive the Founder’s Scholarship and the Mount Union Cheer Scholarship. The people that I have met makes Mount Union feel like home. From my friends, teammates, sorority sisters, classmates, and faculty, Mount has also given me people who help me achieve my best, stay positive, and support me no matter what is thrown my way. I would tell students looking at colleges to fund the place that feels like home the second you step on campus. The place you choose to go is home for the next four years. You want a place where you are able to enjoy all the experiences you are offered and grow as a person.

Why Early Childhood Education?

I choose early childhood education as my major because it gives me a way to support children as they grow in their education and as they grow into the people they will be become through support of their interests. I have been out in the field multiple times throughout my education courses and these have been so educational. My favorite time was working one on one with a student because I was able to see her each week and really get to know her, what she likes to do and how she learns. I saw growth from her over my experience working with her and it made me feel like I chose the right major.

Future Plans

My ultimate goal is to be an elementary school teacher in the Columbus area. With the classes I am taking and the teachers I have guiding me along to the path of success. I am challenged in my courses, and through those I am learning how to manage my classroom and be a successful teacher after graduation. The Integrative Core helped me become better a being comfortable with public speaking and will help me be able to give presentations in front of my future students, future faculty members, other professionals in my field.
