Real-World Experiences at Mount Union
One of the most amazing parts of PA school has been applying what I learned in class, working with patients. It is crazy to think that I am now an active part of their healthcare, and I have been so fortunate to meet many kind patients who have helped me grow and boosted my confidence. Patients do not have to allow students to participate in their care, so I am thankful for every patient who lets me be involved. My second rotation was in women’s health, and it was an incredible experience. Since labor and delivery is what first sparked my interest in healthcare, this rotation felt like a full circle moment for me. Thanks to my amazing preceptor, I had the chance to see and assist with so many different experiences, from regular annual and prenatal visits to vaginal and cesarean deliveries as well as laparoscopic and robotic assisted surgeries. I feel so lucky to have had this opportunity, and spending a few days in labor and delivery, seeing firsthand the experiences my mom used to tell me about, was truly unforgettable.
Why Mount Union's PA Program?
I chose Mount Union’s PA program because it is close to home, which was important to me after being away for my undergraduate degree. I knew PA school would be challenging, and I wanted to stay near my family, friends, and boyfriend if possible. The program also came highly recommended by every physician and PA I had the chance to shadow or talk to. It is fully accredited and has a great PANCE pass rate, which really shows they know how to prepare their students. From the moment I learned more about it, I knew it was a program I truly wanted to be a part of. One of the most impactful parts of Mount Union’s PA program has been learning to trust myself while also knowing when to lean on others. Before PA school, everything felt competitive, but now it’s about supporting each other and getting through the tough moments together. I might not know every condition perfectly, but I can rely on my classmates to help fill in the gaps in my knowledge, and they can rely on me to do the same for them, which reflects how teamwork works in real practice.
