A Career in Biology
I work in a microbiology lab where my role is to perform diagnostic tests to identify microorganisms in patient samples! I love being a medical technologist because I can combine my love for laboratory work with having a direct impact on patient care! Working in a laboratory allows me to help a physician make a diagnosis without having direct patient contact, and it is the perfect job for someone like me who likes to be "behind the scenes" while still making a difference. A goal of mine in my career is to obtain my master's degree one day!
Why Mount Union?
I chose Mount Union because of its strong academic reputation in the health sciences along with the fact that I was able to play lacrosse! The campus community was so welcoming when I first visited, and I loved the idea of small class sizes which allowed for more hands-on experiences - including conducting research! I was involved in many extracurriculars including women's lacrosse, the choral program. Through both lacrosse and the choral program, I gained many skills, including how to work effectively as part of a team and how to stay disciplined, which both help in my current job! My favorite memory at Mount Union is touring France, Belgium, and the Netherlands with the Concert Choir my senior year! It was truly a once in a lifetime opportunity, and I am so grateful I was able to end my time at Mount by singing with my best friends in some of the most beautiful Cathedrals overseas.
