Experiential Learning Opportunities
I spent a month alone in Europe living and working on an organic farm. During that time, I learned about agriculture, adapted to a completely new environment, and gained a lot of independence. Many people are surprised that I had such an adventurous and hands-on experience by myself. At Mount Union the most experiential learning opportunities I've had are working as a Japanese teaching assistant, interacting with students. Through this experience, I’ve been able to help students learn Japanese language and culture with hands-on way activities. My favorite part has been seeing students improve and become more confident. It’s very rewarding to share my culture and support their learning.
Choosing to Teach at Mount Union
I learned about the University of Mount Union when I was looking for schools with strong Japanese language programs. I chose to attend because the university has an active Japanese program, and I was very interested in working as a Japanese teaching assistant to share my culture and support students learning Japanese. Professor Haruka has had the biggest impact on my experience at Mount Union. Although I am a teaching assistant, she always encourages me to take on new challenges and provides a supportive environment where I can grow. Thanks to her guidance, I’ve gained confidence and learned a lot about teaching and communication.
