Choosing Mount Union
I loved the size of Mount Union. I knew I would be able to connect with the professors and not just be another student. I also loved the idea of having so many opportunities to get involved on campus. The campus is also gorgeous and gives you that college “feel.” The scholarships I received helped me because the fact that I would save money by going to a private institution, as opposed to a state school, was a huge factor that helped me choose Mount Union. I knew I would be receiving a better education and connecting with the professors more than at a state school.
Being a Purple Raider
The school pride here at Mount Union is no joke. School pride is not just important to the students but the whole university and community surrounding Mount Union. That is truly a special thing. Even though Mount Union is a small environment, it supports minority groups and has a diverse student body.
I have always had a passion to help people. I want to obtain a Master’s Degree in mental health and family counseling and the human development and family science major would help prepare me for my future pursuits. Even though I did not want to take a language it is a part of the graduate requirement for Mount Union. However, after choosing French as my language, I ended up really enjoying the material. I am now pursuing a French minor and studying abroad in France over the summer. I believe these opportunities will help me learn more about people and different cultures. In this, helping me understand various individuals while learning to become a counselor.
Liberal Arts Benefits
The liberal arts make you study different material outside of your comfort zone. In turn, you might fall in love with something you might have never tried or gain knowledge that will make you more well-rounded individual. The integrative core has forced me to continue perfecting my writing and speaking skills. I think that is very beneficial because these are basic skills that an individual will use daily throughout the course of their lives.
I would love to be a mental health counselor for professional athletes. In my major I can take classes that are specifically constructed for students who want to study counseling. In addition, there are internships offered to help gain experience and educate students about their specific career choice.
