Why Biomedical Engineering?
I chose biomedical engineering because I’ve always been fascinated by biology and creating new things. My ultimate career goal is to create and design prosthetics. UMU is helping to prepare me for that by giving me opportunities to reach out to companies for internships and apply for related research experience opportunities for undergraduates. I’ve had the opportunity to conduct an independent research study in chemistry with Dr. Keith Miller. It’s been an amazing opportunity for me to deepen my knowledge and learning here at Mount, to get involved with research at a young age.
Advice to Prospective Students
I would say to think about your education and the experience you want to have in getting your degree. To not count out a smaller D3 school because my experience at Mount Union has been wonderful!
Impactful Faculty Members
The faculty member that has had the biggest impact on my UMU experience so far is Dr. Keith Miller. He has done the most for me, helping me prepare my resume and personal statement, believing in my abilities, giving me advice, checking in on how other commitments are going, and sharing his knowledge and time with me. Conducting research with Dr. Miller has opened opportunities for me like applying for Research Experience for Undergraduates (REUs). I would’ve never had this opportunity at a bigger school.
