Manzilla Student Diversity and Spiritual Life Intern
Reporting to the Director of Student Diversity Programs and the Director of Spiritual Life, the Manzilla Intern will play a crucial role in supporting and promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion within the Student Diversity Programs and Spiritual Life.
A. Institution-wide Responsibilities
This role involves assisting the Director of Student Diversity Programs, the University Chaplain, and Director of Retention and collaborating with various departments to implement initiatives that foster a diverse and inclusive student experience and promote and support retention.
- The Manzilla Intern will work to develop and implement strategies that enhance cultural awareness, equity, and belonging among students.
- The intern will also work closely with the University Chaplain to increase diversity programming within the area of Spiritual Life.
- The Intern will also work with the Director of Retention to ensure these efforts are aligned with and support new and existing retention efforts.
B. Specific Responsibilities for Manzilla Student Diversity and Spiritual Life Intern
1. Support Diversity, Inclusion, & Spiritual Life Programs:
2. Assist in the development and implementation of diversity and inclusion programs & initiatives.
3. Collaborate with students, faculty, and staff to ensure that diversity and inclusion efforts align with overall university diversity and retention goals.
4. Address the results from the INSPIRES Index to address areas where UMU is lacking in Interfaith initiatives.
5. Cooperate with BSU, BBB, SAGE, HOLA, and Sister Circle to create events within Spiritual Life that are targeted specifically for our African American students of faith.
6. Data Collection and Analysis:
7. Collect, analyze, and report data related to diversity and inclusion programs.
8. Identify trends and provide insights to help shape diversity programs, strategies, and initiatives.
9. Recruitment and Retention:
10. Work closely with the UMU students to support diverse recruitment efforts for student diversity organizations.
11. Provide input on strategies to attract and retain student leaders.
12. Assist the chaplain in developing new spiritual life programming to create spaces of welcome for students of diverse faith traditions and for those who have no faith tradition.
13. Assist the Director of Retention in developing new and supporting existing retention initiatives.
C. Other duties as assigned:
Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree; enrollment in a M.Ed. or MBA graduate program or related field; Ability to build relationships and work collaboratively with individuals from diverse backgrounds; Ability to lead; Interfaith Understanding; Cultural competence and sensitivity to different perspectives and experiences; Strong written and verbal communication skills to effectively engage with diverse audience; Ability to coordinate and plan events: A background in research. Candidate must possess a valid driver’s license and be insurable to drive a university vehicle. In addition, the candidate will be subject to a background screen which includes a motor vehicle check.
