Otto Art Gallery Reopening Information

As we look forward to the return of face-to-face instruction and of our students to campus, there will be numerous changes to the day-to-day operations on campus which prioritizes the safety of all. This page will focus specifically on plans regarding the Otto Art Gallery at the Giese Center for the Performing Arts.

Department of Theatre Reopening FAQs

  1. How do I access the Otto Gallery?

    Before entering the building, all faculty, students, and staff should be prepared to abide with Mount Union’s Four Personal Safety Practices:

    • Conduct a daily health self-assessment
    • Wear a face covering
    • Maintain social distancing
    • Maintain personal hygiene
  2. What are the building hours at Otto Gallery?

    The Otto Art Gallery will only be open to students, faculty, and staff at this time.

    Hours for Viewing:
    Monday – Friday, 5 p.m. – 10 p.m.

    The hours will vary for special exhibitions and openings. Announcements regarding time and process will be made via the web and email prior to each event.

  3. What are the expectations regarding masks, social distancing, and hygiene at Otto Gallery?

    While viewing art in the Otto Gallery, faculty, students and staff must:

    • Wear masks at all times.
    • Wash hands regularly for a minimum of 20 seconds
    • Practice social distancing while in the Otto Gallery

    Please maintain 6 feet or more between unrelated groups at all times and please yield at entry and exit points where necessary.

  4. What does Gallery etiquette look like?
    • Please use the hand sanitizer stations and or restrooms nearest the Brush Hall entrance prior to entering the space.
    • Wash and or sanitize your hands for 20 seconds if using soap and water.
    • Please note and respect the social distancing room capacity for both Otto Gallery and Brush Lobby
      • Otto gallery- 20 people.
      • Brush lobby- 23 people.
    • Please maintain 6’ social distancing and leave ample room for others to pass through the gallery.
    • Viewers are asked to remain at or near the purple half-moon floor markings while engaging with the work.
    • If viewing areas are unavailable, please prioritize the 6’ social distancing guidelines and wait at a safe distance for your opportunity.
    • Due to health and safety protocols and in an effort to thwart possible cross contamination, please do not touch the art or any part of the exhibits.
  5. Where should I wait to enter Brush Lobby and Otto Gallery?

    Unfortunately, the Gallery is no longer a space for socialization and/or loitering. We ask that if you are finished viewing the art, please utilize our outside spaces to gather (while remaining socially distant).

  6. Have there been any precautions in regard to public restrooms?

    At this time, restrooms in Giese are limited to 6 feet social distancing. If you cannot maintain 6 feet from others in the restroom, please wait outside the restroom.
