A Career in Business
I took an introductory business course, and it wasn’t just the material that caught my interest — it was the conversations I had with the professors. Their passion and support made all the difference and helped me realize this was the right path for me. I am currently following the path of HR which I’m working in. The problem-solving skills I’ve gained at Mount Union I wouldn’t have been able to find anywhere else.
Experiential Learning Opportunities
One of the highlights of my time at Mount Union was the trip to Niagara Falls — the experience was incredible. My boyfriend and I had a wonderful time, and it gave us the chance to connect with classmates on a deeper level. I’ve also been interning at Crystal Clinic Orthopaedic Center, which has been an amazing opportunity. The staff at Crystal Clinic took me in as an intern a little over a year ago and taught me about professionalism in an office setting. Learning about HR from the manager and applying the skills I learned in class, helped me excel as a student and professional. I provide support in the human resource department and to the organization's employees. But, I also help administer and coordinate HR programs, policies, and maintain the human resources information system along with compiling key metrics and statistics regarding HR. Graduating in the fall, Crystal Clinic has offered me a full-time job, which will allow me to stabilize my career.
Overcoming Obstacles
The biggest challenge I’ve faced during my time at Mount Union has been financial hardship. For the past four years, I’ve paid my full tuition on my own, with the help of scholarships, student loans, and the emotional support of my friends and family. It hasn’t been easy, but I’ve made it work. It’s been tough at times, but it’s also shown me how strong and determined I can be.
