Choosing Mount Union
My university in Bamberg offers many different destinations/places to study at and Mount Union was part of their offer for the US. After seeing their videos online and reading about Mount Union, I figured out that they want to be perceived as a family. That made it pretty easy to choose this university. It has always been important to me that I am not just a face in the crowd, I want to feel like a part of the organization, and Mount Union gave me that feeling.
I love the fact that you can really be a part of Mount Union, you feel welcome and people at Mount Union quickly managed to integrate international students like me to the family. It is impressive, how proud not just current students, but also graduates from many years ago are to be a “Raider.” Also, I love American Football. Go Raiders! Dawn Adams, Kim Hajec, and Ron Holden really do their best to make everyone feel as good as possible. And they have huge success doing this! Everyone else – faculty and students – is also overwhelmingly nice, so that there were no problems to adjust to American college life.
In the Classroom
I chose economics as my major because understanding the world of economics and business is one of the most interesting things for me, as the world would not be the same without money and the whole business around it. Economies and people working in this area strive for improvement and success every day, which is very admirable in my opinion.
My favorite experience is going to Mr. (Michael) Kachilla’s classes. His style of teaching reaches every student, which is what the students also feel and therefore recognize. The mixture between his personal experiences and established books that underline what he teaches makes his classes incomparable. To me, he is not a regular professor like you find them in great numbers in Germany. His friendly, caring attitude separates him. I can clearly feel that he is not just teaching leadership, he internalized how to be a great leader, which makes him a role model on my further way.
My ultimate career goal/dream is to have a fulfilling job – preferably in a leading position in a company that deals a lot with international customers. I would love to see myself organizing projects in new markets. This job should still give me enough freedom to spend enough time with my family, which always comes first.
Advice to Future Raiders
