Education

NSFIA

Location

Barberton, Ohio

Minor: Computer Network Security

Strong Academics

I chose Mount Union because it has a strong political science department and I was really interested in the new national security program offered.

Outstanding Involvement

I like how small Mount Union is and how everybody on campus gets involved in some way.

KHIC Café

My favorite place at Mount Union is the new KHIC Café’ because it is a good place to get away from the dorms to go study and get good food.

Building Relationships

Mount Union professors really make an effort to get to know their students and to build relationships with them. I feel like at other universities, especially bigger ones, professors don’t get the chance to get to know their students.

Interest in Foreign Affairs

I chose national security as my major because I have always been interested in the intelligence community and how foreign affairs work. I also have a lot of patriotism because I grew up in a military family.

Hands-on Experience

My favorite hands-on experience in my major so far has been for my world politics course. My class had to put on a campus campaign throughout the fall semester and work in small groups to make a difference on an international issue. It taught me how to work with a big organization to achieve a goal and also how to work with students around me. It was also a great networking experience.

Shaping Outlooks

My favorite professor is Dr. Lori Kumler because she challenges students to do their best work possible and also has helped me to find future internships. She has helped shape my outlook that hard work really does pay off.

Preparing for the Future

The benefits of combining a liberal arts education and professional preparation are that they both prepare you for a work force that you would want to be a part of. A liberal arts education helps students become well-rounded and knowledgeable in every aspect rather than just one.
