Mount Union Faculty Named to Ohio Magazine's "Excellence in Education" for 2018

The University of Mount Union recently had four of its outstanding faculty members named to the 2018 “Excellence in Education Honorees” list from Ohio Magazine.

The four faculty members were: Dr. Lori Braa, associate professor of human performance and sport business, Kevin Kern, associate professor and chair of the Department of Theatre, Roger Kunes, assistant professor of physician assistant studies and Dr. Gwen Gray Schwartz, associate professor of English. 

Braa has been a member of the Mount Union faculty since 2011 and teaches a variety of courses in the sport business curriculum. She earned her Ph.D. in sport administration from the University of Northern Colorado. 

Kern has been with Mount Union since 2012 and has also served as artistic director of Shakespeare at the Castle since 2014. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in theatre from California Lutheran University and went on to earn a Master of Fine Arts degree from Brandeis University's Professional Actor Training Program. 

Kunes, who works as a physician assistant at the Emergency Department at Mercy Medical Center, came to Mount Union in 2015 to teach in the physician assistant studies program. He earned a Master of Medical Science degree in medical science from Emory University School of Medicine. He was honored with the 2018 Exemplary Teacher Award from Mount Union. 

Gray Schwartz has been a member of the Mount Union faculty since 2006 and has been instrumental in the success of Mount Union’s Digital, Written, and Oral Communication (DWOC) Studio. She earned her Ph.D. in Rhetoric, Composition and the Teaching of English from the University of Arizona.
