Mount Union, Marlington Continue “Duke Tank” Competitions

April 01, 2019

ALLIANCE, Ohio — The University of Mount Union and Marlington Middle School business class partnered once again to host the Marlington middle school “Duke Tank” competition.

Duke Tank, based on the ABC show “Shark Tank,” encourages Marlington students to become entrepreneurially minded and come up with creative solutions to today's problems.

More than twenty middle school students participate in teams over the course of the grading period for a chance at taking home first place. The top place team not only wins bragging rights, they also receive a Chipotle gift card.

The top-placing team from the first group devised a watch that was named “Buzz Clock.” The watch shocked the wearer awake if heart-rate levels dropped to sleep levels set by the user. Team members were Jordan Nutter, Dylan Reynolds and Bella Graham.

The winning team from the second group came up with a product they named “Surfside Wave”, a smart-container that notifies a consumer when food reaches its expiration date. The team consisted of Isaac Majoris, Austin Callahan and Aiden Keller.

Other top ideas were Dream Catcher, a device that records and saves dreams thru electronic bonnet and Adjust Up, a children's shoe that can expand as they grow.
