Office of Alumni Engagement Hosts Dinner with 12 Strangers Event

November 16, 2018

ALLIANCE, Ohio – The University of Mount Union’s Office of Alumni Engagement hosted a “Dinner with 12 Strangers” event Wednesday, November 14 as a way for students to network with alumni and friends of the University.

Held at the Alliance Country Club, the goal of this event was to strengthen the connection between current students and alumni by sharing campus and career experiences in a casual environment.

“It was incredibly beneficial, and I was able to ask questions about interviewing and preparing for life after college,” said McKenna Tubbs ’19, a middle childhood education major of Stow, Ohio. “I also loved having the opportunity to engage with alumni!”

This year’s alumni and friends guest list included Marty Bowe, Lynne (Bonnes ’78) Clunk, Roy Clunk ’77, Mike Gallina ’82, Steve Moore ’73, Valarie (Dominick ’93) Nash, Jen (Thurin ’03) Slack, Marylou (Horwood ’98) Thewes and Sandi (McCallum ’93) Zemrock. This group encompasses alumni who earned degrees in four different areas with professional ties to healthcare administration and coordination, teaching and executive business roles.

“The role of alumni during the evening was to mentor and answer questions that the students may have as they prepare for their futures, plus share memories from their time at Mount Union.” Tiffany Hogya, director of alumni relations and university activities, said. “The event offers an excellent opportunity for alumni to give back to the institution by showcasing their careers and connecting with current students.”

Of the students attending, six intend to major in education, while others are marketing, human resources, sport business and other science-related fields.
