Why Mount Union's PA Program?

I chose the University of Mount Union’s PA program because of its strong reputation throughout Northeast Ohio and the professionalism I witnessed from its graduates working in the emergency department during my time as a paramedic. Their clinical competence, teamwork, and ability to manage complex cases left a lasting impression on me and reflected the high quality of Mount Union’s education. One of the most impactful aspects of Mount Union’s PA program is its strong emphasis on teamwork, which mirrors the collaboration I’ll experience as a future PA. The director and faculty have created an environment that truly fosters camaraderie and support; my cohort shares a unique bond built on mutual respect and a genuine desire to see one another succeed.

Choosing to Become a Physician Assistant

My journey toward becoming a PA started as a firefighter and paramedic, where I saw how critical thinking and teamwork could make a real difference in people’s lives. I wanted to expand my role moving from responding in emergencies to diagnosing and managing care. Before PA school, I served as a Lieutenant with Plain Township Fire and Rescue and worked as a firefighter/paramedic in Stark County. These experiences taught me leadership, discipline, and the importance of staying calm under pressure. I’m also a U.S. Navy Health Services Collegiate Program (HSCP) selectee, which allows me to focus on my education and, upon graduation, I will transition from an enlisted noncommissioned officer to a commissioned Navy officer serving as a PA.
