The Bachelor of Science in civil engineering degree at the University of Mount Union is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET, https://www.ABET.org. Our civil engineering program prides itself on providing individual attention to help students become proficient in structural, hydraulic and environmental, geotechnical, and construction engineering, and provides students with hands-on experiences and internship opportunities throughout their undergraduate career.

The civil engineering program requires 134-credit hours of coursework, which also fulfills the University’s requirements for its general education program, the Integrative Core. MISSION

The mission of the civil engineering program is to provide a comprehensive, rigorous, hands-on engineering education in a quality and conducive learning environment; providing students with the skills and competencies necessary for employment or career advancement as civil engineers. Our graduates will be equipped for life-long learning necessary for professional practice and advanced studies. We will prepare our students to be the technical, business, and global leaders of tomorrow. 

PROGRAM EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES 

Graduates of the University of Mount Union's Civil Engineering Program will achieve:

  1. Fulfilling lives by pursuing licensure, advanced studies, and/or alternate career paths.

  2. Meaningful work by applying their strong Civil Engineering, problem solving, business, leadership, and communication skills to meet the expectations of their employers and society.

At the time of graduation, Civil Engineering students will have achieved the following Student Outcomes:

  1. An ability to identify, formulate, and solve complex engineering problems by applying principles of engineering, science, and mathematics
  2. An ability to apply engineering design to produce solutions that meet specified needs with consideration of public health, safety, and welfare, as well as global, cultural, social, environmental, and economic factors
  3. An ability to communicate effectively with a range of audiences
  4. An ability to recognize ethical and professional responsibilities in engineering situations and make informed judgments, which must consider the impact of engineering solutions in global, economic, environmental, and societal contexts
