Becoming an Engineer
The job description for an engineer at ODOT involves providing expertise and technical assistance to ensure efficient and timely delivery of transportation projects, focusing on safety and improvement of Ohio's transportation system. This includes working on various aspects, including roadway design, traffic control, and maintenance of traffic. What I like the most about my job is the overall team environment that is presented. Working for the Ohio Department of Transportation, we understand all the risks and challenges that are present during our every day activities on the job. It takes more than just one individual to get a project done and delivered it safely and in a timely fashion. The company also truly care about the development hires. I don’t really have an overall goal to reach besides being the best engineer that I can possibly be. I would like to be able to be a role model for another engineer that resembles myself whenever they feel down and don’t believe they’ll be able to make it. I’d like to say I embodied what hard work and dedication will get you in life. As I wrote down on my senior brick, “ they don’t care how you start, they’ll remember how you finished.”
Mount Union: A Second Home
For myself, it was a no-brainer that I was going to be a Raider. Growing up in the city of Alliance you’re surrounded by the atmosphere and camaraderie brought to the city by the University of Mount Union’s athletics programs. Growing up, being able to participate in football was a pivotal part of my development. Just like other young players who had D1 dreams I wasn’t lucky enough to get that opportunity, but being able to play for such a prestigious dynasty in my hometown was a dream come true! While on campus, I decided to go with what I was best at academically, which predominantly was math and science. This led me to pursue the engineering career. However, A lot of extracurriculars played an important role during my development during school. I was a part of Brothers Building Bonds, BSU, the Peer Mentorship Program, along with participating at the varsity level on the football team. Many of my characteristics were developed through these extracurricular activities. I cannot thank each individual enough for what I was able to pick up and take along with me after I crossed the stage with my diploma.
