Assessment Data

The University of Mount Union is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC). Our Department of Education is accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) through 2023. The University's licensure programs are approved by the Ohio Department of Higher Education (ODHE).

Mount Union offers personal and professional growth experiences in a supportive community that both challenges and inspires candidates. UMU education candidates have an outstanding record of achievement upon graduation:

  • The average UMU GPA for candidates admitted to the Initial Teacher Preparation Program was:
    • 3.44 on a 4.0 scale in 2016.
    • 3.50 on a 4.0 scale in 2017.
    • 3.45 on a 4.0 scale in 2018.
  • The average UMU GPA for candidates completing the Initial Teacher Preparation Program was:
    • 3.48 on a 4.0 scale in 2016.
    • 3.52 on a 4.0 scale in 2017.
    • 3.63 on a 4.0 scale in 2018.
  • The average UMU GPA for candidates completing the Advanced Principal Licensure Program was:
    • 3.98 on a 4.0 scale in 2016.
    • 3.97 on a 4.0 scale in 2017.
    • 3.98 on a 4.0 scale in 2018.
  • In 2016-2017, 100% of UMU completers, both Initial Teacher Preparation and Advanced Principal Licensure Programs, passed Ohio Assessment for Educators licensure exams. In 2017-2018, 98% of UMU Initial Teacher Preparation Program completers passed Ohio Assessment for Educators licensure exams and 100% of UMU Advanced Principal Licensure Program completers passed the exams.
  • Ohio teachers complete a mandatory four-year Resident Educator licensure program, and 96.8% of UMU alumni who entered Residency Year 4 then completed Residency Year 4 in 2016-2017 (30 out of 31 alumni). In 2017-2018, 100% (27 alumni) who entered Residency Year 4 then completed Residency Year 4.
