Why Music Education?

I was so inspired by my music teachers growing up that I knew that teaching and music were my path. There was no doubt that music had to be in my life every day, and having the opportunity to teach in the public schools for 33 years was such a blessing. And now to influence future music educators at the collegiate level is the icing on the cake of my career.

Favorite Part of Your Job?

I love working with the Mount music education students and watching them grow into aspiring young educators. Seeing their success when they are teaching in our class or out in the field is the best! I have to add that it has been such a blessing to be part of the choirs here at Mount! To make music with the students is always a highlight of my day.

Why Music at Mount Union?

I see the students talking every day in my classroom and rehearsals about what they are doing outside of it. So many of them are busy with activities that are not their major. I believe that Mount offers so much more than academia, and the students benefit from all of the opportunities they get to be a part of. It's really special. I had the opportunity to go with the choirs to Europe two years ago and be with them as they performed in the most amazing cathedrals and churches. Our every day rehearsals started with learning the music during the school year and eventually transformed into performances that were so meaningful for the European audiences that there were tears in their eyes. The appreciation that was shown to our students for their musical performances was incredible. Mount gave this opportunity to our students and our students shared the love of music with the world. It was just incredible!
