Why Teach History?

I chose this career because I truly loved learning about people, and the best way to do so is through their writing, historical records, and art. I also love working with students and sharing my knowledge with them while simultaneously learning from them as well.

Unique Courses

I try to show students how cultures form in dialogue with each other. For example, in my Ancient Greece and Rome course I use sources to show how Romans and Greeks saw cultures outside of themselves and how that informed their understandings of their own "Roman-ness" or "Greek-ness."

History at Mount Union

Mount Union allows students to explore themselves in a way that allows them to be successful not just monetarily but as individuals in an increasingly global society. A liberal arts education in which students are required to minor and explore disciplines outside their own create well-rounded individuals that can empathize and connect with people allowing them to be positive forces in their communities. I think what is unique about my program at Mount Union is the extent to which instructors are willing to go to support their students.
