Sport Business major

I chose Sport Business as a major because of my passion for sports outside of being a fan; I have been involved in sports broadcasting for nearly 5 years and that has allowed me to view sports from business and analytical reference points.

Gaining Experience in College

I have been able to call a number of great games at Mount Union, such as the MCVL Tournament, OAC Semi-Finals for Volleyball and Women's Lacrosse, along with the Women's Lacrosse title game. On top of those games, I was able to call two games during the NCAA tournament for baseball. Finally, I was given the ability to run postgame press conferences for the NCAA and MCVL Tournament. I also run my own company,  SmeeSports, which was approved as an LLC in May. SmeeSports LLC now has a website, smeesports.com, where we post articles and other written content. In essence, I chose Sport Business as a major because of my passion for sports outside of being a fan; I have been involved in sports broadcasting for nearly 5 years and that has allowed me to view sports from business and analytical reference points.

Building Connections on Campus

Dr. Thoma, Dr. Cooper, and Lynn Riggle have all impacted my experience at Mount Union. Dr. Thoma knew what I was capable of from the start, and he would always ask what games/events I had coming up. I would even see him at some of these events, and he would stop by to talk during breaks. Even when I did not have him as a professor, he still looked out for me, and I will always appreciate it. Dr. Cooper helped me out even before I stepped foot on campus for the first semester. She helped me get involved with RSM and media and pushed me in the classroom. Whenever I am taking photos or filming content, I always think back to what she taught me this past year and go from there. Lynn's impact also began before I stepped on campus. She helped me make sure my schedule would allow me to get a job at Q92, calling football games this past fall. She also spoke about me to my boss at Spectrum Channel 1022 Alliance, Logan McGee. All in all, these three people on campus have made such a great impact in my journey at UMU so far.
