Mount Union Athletics - Statement on Spring 2021

December 22, 2020

The University of Mount Union values intercollegiate athletics place as a part of the mission of the institution and the campus community.

Athletics at Mount Union has long reflected the mission of the University to prepare students for fulfilling lives, meaningful work, and responsible citizenship.

Mount Union is committed to moving forward in 2021 with conducting intercollegiate athletics in a manner that puts the health and welfare of student-athletes and everyone involved at the forefront of our decisions.

To that end, Mount Union will do the following with regards to intercollegiate athletics:

  1. Mount Union will follow NCAA and conference recommendations with regards to testing and hosting events.
  2. Mount Union will continue to work with the Alliance City Health Department, the Stark County Health Department along with our conference leadership to ensure that local, state, and federal protocols and procedures are being followed.
  3. Per a mandate from the Ohio Athletic Conference, there will be no fans at all athletic events until March 1, 2021 at which time the policy will be reevaluated.
  4. The NCAA has approved a blanket waiver that allows all Division III student-athletes are able to participate in athletics during this academic year without being charged a season of participation or semesters of eligibility.

"All of us at Mount Union, appreciate the continued perseverance and patience that our student-athletes and their families have exhibited as we continue adjusting to changing recommendations and necessary safety measures," commented interim athletic director Mike Parnell. "We know the adjustments are not easy, but we believe it is the best way to conduct safe athletic competition in this challenging environment."

Athletics are slated to restart in late January 2021 and refer to athletics.mountunion.edu for the most up-to-date schedules and information.
