Becoming a Purple Raider

I heard about UMU through both my family and friends! The deciding factor for me was not only the rigorous yet fulfilling pre-med track, but the community atmosphere that I instantly experience every time I walk onto campus! I was thankful to have received multiple scholarships, from the Trustee Scholarship to the Minority Achievement award to an eSports Scholarship! My biggest tip when college searching would be to choose a college or university where YOU feel the most potential to flourish in not only academic growth, but personal growth.

Advantages at Mount Union

Mount Union feels like a second home to me because of the atmosphere between students and faculty on campus. I feel as though wherever I am, I am bound to meet and talk to a potentially "random" stranger yet still feel a sense of community and identity. The Integrative Core at Mount Union prepared me for a well-rounded life outside of academics. To succeed in the "real world", one must be proficient in speaking, writing, and organizing their thoughts to present some type of information. UMU's IC prepared me to do just that by integrating a critical writing and speaking portion into every single one of my courses.

Learning Experiences

I chose biochemistry because I've always been interested in learning more about the interactions between biology and chemistry. As well, I chose to double major in Spanish because of my passion for the language itself! The biggest experiential learning opportunity I've had during my years at UMU (so far) has been my study abroad experience in Chile! By far, that experience is the biggest factor in my personal growth as an individual, as the exposure to other cultures and perspectives of the world opened my eyes to the limitless stories out there that have yet to be heard.

International Goals

My ultimate career goal is to become a doctor and eventually volunteer abroad with an organization like Doctors Without Borders! Mount Union is preparing me for that goal by utilizing academically rigorous course loads, opportunities such as studying abroad, leadership positions on campus and so much more!
