For nearly 25 years, the Nature Center’s boardwalk has welcomed thousands—families with strollers, visitors with mobility challenges, schoolchildren, and community members—providing safe access to the outdoors. But time and millions of footsteps have taken their toll. Despite regular maintenance, the boardwalk now suffers from uneven surfaces, frost-heaved sections, steep slopes, and slippery conditions, falling short of ADA standards and modern safety expectations.
The time for a replacement has come. Upgrading to today’s materials will ensure better traction, improved drainage, and long-term durability. The project cost is estimated at $200,000, covering 180 sections and critical structural work. Grants and donations are being sought to make this vision a reality – restoring a vital resource for generations to come.
