Being a Student-Athlete at UMU
Coach Beth, the head lacrosse coach, had reached out to me over the summer of my senior year about playing lacrosse at Mount Union. I had set up a phone call and an overnight visit to campus. When I stepped onto campus and met the girls on the team, I just knew that this was where I wanted to spend my next four years. It sounds really cliché but I fell in love with everything about Mount Union from the campus to academics and athletics. I made the decision that day that I wanted to be a part of the Mount Union community and I am so grateful I did.
Overcoming Uncertainty
To students looking at colleges and universities, trust where you want to go and don't go where everyone else will. It can feel safe to just attend the school your friends will choose. No one from my high school or in my area was going to Mount and that really scared me. I knew that Mount was where I wanted to go, but a part of me was nervous I wasn’t going to make friends and wanted to stay close to the people I already knew. I don’t regret my decision of choosing Mount because the friends I have made through nursing and through lacrosse are really special to me. It will be a difficult few years and why not spend it somewhere you truly love. Trust your gut and when you know it’s where you want to be, go there, even scared.
Choosing to be a Nurse
I chose to study nursing because through my own experience, a good nurse can truly impact a patient’s care experience. My goal is to work as a travel nurse in the emergency department or operating room. I haven't decided if I want to go back to school for my master's yet. But, Mount provides so many hands-on experiences, so I can feel confident that I will be successful. Professor Corbisello has really been such an inspiration for me to continue pursuing nursing as my ultimate carreer. In her classes, she relates real experiences to topics we are learning and makes class more enjoyable. Nursing can feel very daunting walking into it freshman year, but professor Corbisello has such a fun, honest, outgoing personality that it makes everyone feel welcome in class.
