Transferring to Mount Union
I heard about Mount Union because my previous institution and Mount Union are in the same conference (OAC). I chose to attend Mount Union for their nursing program. I had heard such great things about it and based on their statistics it is a great program and shows that the students are successful. Everyone here (Staff, Faculty, and Professors) are all extremely helpful, want to see you succeed and will do their absolute best to make sure you do. As soon as I stepped on campus everyone was welcoming me with open arms and they haven't let go since.
Career Opportunities as a Nurse
My ultimate goal is to become a Careflight nurse, possibly get my nurse practitioner license. But for now Careflight is where I want to work. I know it's a little cliche, but I genuinely like helping people and it is constant learning. When I was in middle school I saw Careflight (helicopter) for the first time and I was so infatuated and I knew from that point on, that is what I wanted to do. I think it is such a cool job, I'll get to see something new everyday and save peoples lives while traveling up in the sky. I feel UMU is preparing me for this career because the faculty persists on students being precautious nurses and I feel that is an important part of being in the field.
Overcoming Challenges in College
Moving away from home. My family and I are extremely close and I have always stayed close to home when not at home. So moving 3.5 hours away was very hard for me. But getting involved and making new connections has helped a lot with the homesickness. Marci Muckleroy is amazing; she genuinely cares about students and wants them to succeed. She has been there for me academically and personally. I cannot be more grateful for her and all she has done.
