Why Teach at Mount Union?
As a graduate student at the University of the Basque Country, I was offered the opportunity to apply for this position through USAC (University Studies Abroad Consortium). After getting more information about it, I decided to apply because I knew it would be a great experience for my personal and professional growth. As a Spanish teaching assistant I support classroom activities, assist the professor, and gain practical experience in education. The most rewarding aspect of working as a teaching assistant has been working directly with students and seeing their growth in language learning.
Overcoming Obstacles
The main obstacles I’ve had to overcome to reach this point has been adjusting to the dining schedules in American culture and the need to use English in my everyday life, putting my first language, Spanish, to the side, except when I teach, since my classes are in Spanish.
