A Career to Love

I have the privilege of serving the K-8 student population at Tuslaw Local Schools, a community filled with amazing people. My role is centered on uncovering how each student learns best and identifying the specific supports they need to thrive. I conduct comprehensive special education evaluations, including cognitive and academic testing, behavior rating scales, and classroom observations, daily. I am also responsible for Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs) and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs), and I oversee the 504 evaluation and plan process. I love the people I work with; the teachers, administrators, related services, secretaries, custodians, parents, and, of course, the students! Even on the busiest of days, I genuinely look forward to seeing my team. I love being part of an environment where our youth spends so much of their time, and I find so much joy in helping kids find a love for learning and school.

Staying Connected to Mount Union

My husband, Jackson Kandel, is also a Mount Union alumnus who majored in accounting and finance. Since we’re local, our 'connection' usually looks like grabbing coffee and walking around campus while we’re in Alliance running errands. I loved that Mount Union was genuinely challenging; it wasn't a place where you just showed up to check boxes for a degree. I was able to get unique experiences and opportunities that I wouldn't have found at a larger school. Therefore, Jackson and I have talked about setting up a scholarship once we’re more established in our careers. We’d love to specifically support students from Louisville who want to attend Mount Union, just like we did. We’d love to eventually give back to the community that set us up for success.
