“The scholarship application was based on essay submissions; therefore, the ultimate decision was made based on the content of my essay,” said Hammar. “My father served in the Air Force before I was born so I reflected on how his experience shaped his parenting style which has made me the disciplined and hardworking person that I am today.”

Hammar’s passion for international business led him to study German as a minor and dive into the German culture to learn more about its people and language. He acknowledges that gaining a global perspective in the business world while still in college is a steppingstone towards his career working abroad.

“Experiencing other cultures helps you see the world in new ways and opens doors to opportunities you didn’t know existed,” said Hammar, stating the importance of being open minded.
