Chemistry Students Present Research, Mason ’27 Awarded at Mount Union-Hosted ACS Event
May 19, 2026ALLIANCE — In late April, the University of Mount Union’s Department of Biochemistry, Chemistry and Physics hosted the Akron Section of the American Chemical Society’s (ACS) 2026 Crano Memorial Lecture.
At this event, the Akron section of the ACS recognizes outstanding junior chemistry students from each of seven colleges and universities in the section’s geographic area. Mount Union’s recipient of the award was Elizabeth Mason ’27, a biochemistry major of Alliance.
The night also featured poster presentations from students Landon Shaffer ’26, Jillian Gallo ’27, Michael Kanagy ’27 and Valerie Stroup ’27.
The Crano Memorial Lecture series honors John Crano, a chemist at PPG, who had been instrumental in developing the photochromic materials for PPG's polycarbonate eyeglass lenses.
