Continuing Online Learning Successes, Mount Union Earns Three New National Course Certifications

July 01, 2026

ANNAPOLIS, Maryland — The University of Mount Union continues to be a leader in online learning, as it can now boast 12 courses that have been nationally certified by Quality Matters (QM), the fourth most among Ohio higher education institutions.

To receive this recognition, a course earns the QM Certification Mark once it meets QM Rubric Standards at the 85% threshold or better and meets all Essential Standards. The three most recent recipients of this certification are:

  • Foundations of Instructional Design, taught by Dr. Stephen Craig, assistant dean of academic affairs
  • School Finance, taught by Dr. Jennifer Hollinger, associate professor of education
  • Strength Training and Conditioning, taught by Dr. Tomás Barrett, associate professor of exercise science

"Earning Quality Matters certification is a significant accomplishment and a testament to the dedication Dr. Stephen Craig, Dr. Tomas Barett, and Dr. Jennifer Hollinger have shown in advancing excellence in online education," said Dr. Bryan Boatright, associate vice president for academic affairs and dean of graduate, digital and continued learning. "Their commitment to creating engaging, accessible, and student-centered learning experiences reflects the high standards we strive for across our academic programs. Mount Union is in a place of great strength in online course delivery. We are proud of Stephen, Tomas, and Jennifer’s achievements and grateful for the leadership they demonstrate in supporting student success through innovative course design."
