ALLIANCE, OH- Nine students and two faculty members from the Department of Exercise, Sport, and Nutrition Sciences at the University of Mount Union traveled to Indianapolis, IN to attend the 49th Midwest Chapter of the American College of Sports Medicine (MWACSM) Annual Conference.
Students, faculty, and professionals from a six-state region were able to present research, network, collaborate, and learn from one another. The conference welcomed 500 attendees who engaged and carried out individual and group research projects. This year’s conference was especially fruitful for the Mount Union as students presented original research, won awards, and competed in the annual Quiz Bowl, a Jeopardy-style competition.
Two student abstracts from Mount Union were accepted for presentation:
- Braydon Lazzara ’24 – Assessing the relationship between jump performance and sprint force-velocity profiles of collegiate men’s soccer players.
- Zack Weaver ’23 – The effects of an eight-week mall walking program on balance and gait in stroke patients
Braydon Lazzara was selected as one of seven recipients of the MWACSM Legacy Social Award. Lazzara was also announced as a co-winner of the Outstanding Undergraduate Scholar Award. Zack Weaver received one of twenty available MWACSM First Time Attendee grants, a first for an attendee from Mount Union.
Additionally, the group comprised of Maximus Betscakos ’23, Lazzara, and Abigail Stack ’24 participated in the highly competitive Quiz Bowl, taking ninth place.
