“I earned a master’s degree in social and emotional learning from National University to help students suffering from trauma and emotional needs,” said Pierce. “But I wanted to do more in my role, so I enrolled in Mount Union's Ohio Principal Licensure program.”

The Master of Education program at Mount Union helps educators further their knowledge and guide students on the path toward becoming the next leaders.

“I like that the Ohio Principal License will open up endless opportunities for me in the future,” said Pierce. “I can use my degree to do almost any administrative job, or I can continue to [make a difference] in the classroom.”

In her current role, Pierce explained that she teaches kindergarteners that making mistakes is okay, but learning from them and correcting their path is essential.

“Perseverance describes my academic and professional journeys. In school, I was told by an academic advisor I wouldn’t get into the universities I applied to, and I would struggle if I went to those schools,” said Pierce. “I preserved, got accepted, and excelled in college; in my professional journey, I always preserve, I preserve, and handle anything that is thrown my way professionally.”
