CARE Team

The University of Mount Union CARE Team is committed to the well-being and safety of all members of the campus community by providing coordinated care that connects students and employees with resources and offers intentional intervention and support.

CARE Team’s goal is to identify concerns early, connect students, faculty, or staff with support and resources, and help promote a safe and supportive campus community. If you are concerned about a member of the Mount Union community, you can submit a CARE referral, and the team will connect with and support the community member in the best way possible.

Reporting

  • When to Report

    Wondering when to report?

    Reach out if someone . . .

    • Becomes withdrawn from activities, interests, classes, or relationships;
    • Displays significant or unusual changes in behavior, mood, appearance, or hygiene;
    • Acts in a disruptive, aggressive, intimidating, or threatening manner;
    • Shares concerning thoughts, writings, statements, or social media posts;
    • Appears unusually confused, distressed, or disconnected from reality;
    • Expresses thoughts or demonstrates behaviors that raise concerns about harm to self or others;
    • Shows signs of self-injury or significant substance misuse; or
    • Is experiencing a significant personal, academic, health, or relationship concern that appears to be affecting their wellbeing or ability to effectively function.

    These are examples, not an exhaustive list.

    When in doubt, reach out!

    You do not need to determine whether a situation is serious enough to report. If you are concerned about someone, it is okay to reach out. The CARE Team will assess the concern and determine the most appropriate response.

  • FERPA

    What about FERPA, HIPAA, or employment law?

    You may share information about a student when you are concerned and are making a good-faith report. You do not need to determine whether FERPA or HIPAA or any other restrictions apply before making a report. The CARE Team will handle information appropriately and respect the privacy, rights, and individual needs of those involved.

  • How To Report

    Anyone, including students, family members, faculty, staff, and friends, can make a report. Submit an online CARE Referral, or visit the Student Accountability webpage.

    If you have questions or concerns about a report or process, please contact Jesse Douglas Cunion at 330-829-8112.
