Mount Union’s Russell Receives Costume Design Award

January 28, 2021

ALLIANCE, Ohio — Sarah Russell, assistant professor in costuming and makeup at the University of Mount Union, was recently awarded Outstanding Achievement and Board Choice by the United States Institute of Theatre Technology (USITT) for the costume design she created for the Department of Theatre’s production of Prospero’s Magic Island during fall 2019.

The award was presented during the International Collaborators Conference, which joined together the Stage Managers Association and the Ohio Valley section of USITT. Exhibits presented during the conference were juried and individually scored. Russell’s design, as well as other Board Choice award winners, will be virtually displayed during the national convention of USITT.

Russell’s accomplishment represents the first time a costume designer at Mount Union has received an honor of this magnitude.

Russell earned her bachelor’s degree in music education from Bowling Green State University and a Master of Fine Arts from Kent State University. She is currently in her fourth year at Mount Union.
