CINCINNATTI- Donating one’s organs is a life-changing decision that not many can make. But, guided by his integrity—a core value of Mount Union—and desire to serve others, Brendan Glauthier ’27, finance and management double major, donated stem cells in late January 2026.

“I signed up at the bone marrow registry through the Gift of Life Program that Alpha Phi Omega is connected with during my freshman year, and started preparing for the procedure since November 2025,” said Glauthier.

Glauthier has donated blood since he was in high school, and being chosen to donate stem cells is rare; therefore, when he was made aware that he was a matched donor, he did not hesitate to take the opportunity.

“Donating was not something I expected to do, but not many people match with patients, so if I can help someone become healthier and save a life, then I’ll help them because helping others does not hurt me,” said Glauthier.

While he had been preparing for the procedure since November, Glauthier was scared because he did not know how different the four-hour procedure would be, but his parents and fraternity brothers at Mount Union cheered him on.

“My mom wanted me to write to my recipient when we found out she was close in age to my mom,” said Glauthier. “But for medical protocols, I cannot be in contact with her until after a year has passed.”

Knowing that his recipient was close in age to his mother, Glauthier did not think about the pain he was feeling, but about the life he was saving. And that selflessness is what being a Purple Raider is all about.
