DPT Faculty Present Impactful Research at World Physiotherapy Congress in Tokyo
June 25, 2025TOKYO, Japan — Further illustrating the University of Mount Union’s global reach and faculty expertise, Dr. Kanika Bansal, assistant professor of physical therapy, and Dr. Lisa Koniowsky, clinical assistant professor of physical therapy, presented research at the 2025 World Physiotherapy Congress in Tokyo, Japan in May.

Bansal had a platform presentation and e-poster, titled “Beyond Gait: Mapping Physical, Biopsychosocial, and Environmental Influences on Community Ambulation Post-Stroke” and “Every Step Counts: A Pilot Study on Remote Monitoring to Improve Walking Performance in People with Dementia”, respectively. Koniowsky’s poster presentation was titled, “Efficacy of Blood Flow Restriction Training in People with Multiple Sclerosis on Walking Speed: A Systematic Review.”
The Mount Union faculty were among the 145 main sessions and 1,400 poster sessions available to the more than 5,000 Congress attendees in-person in Tokyo and virtually worldwide.

“This is a great honor for the Doctor of Physical Therapy (PT) program to represent our university at this international platform,” said Bansal. “It was a great experience for both of us to learn about the latest advances in education, research and clinical practice in the field of physical therapy, and to be able to impart the same to our students here.”
According to its website, World Physiotherapy is committed to furthering the physiotherapy profession and improving global health and represents more than 600,000 physiotherapists worldwide. The World Physiotherapy Congress in held every two years, with the 2027 conference taking place in Guadalajara, Mexico.
Bansal shares her research as part of one of the 145 main sessions at the conference.
