WASHINGTON, DC – Dr. Mandy (Geddis ’98) Capel, professor of education and director of graduate programs with the University of Mount Union’s School of Education, was recently announced as an expert consultant as part of the Fulbright Specialist Program.
According to its website, the Fulbright Specialist Program pairs highly qualified U.S. academics and professionals with host institutions abroad to share their expertise, strengthen institutional linkages, hone their skills, gain international experience and learn about other cultures while building capacity at their overseas host institutions.
Capel was recommended by a peer review panel for this prominent role. She will serve on the specialist roster from October 2023-October 2026 in the areas of international and comparative education; educational administration and supervision; social and philosophical foundations of education; elementary education and teaching and curriculum design and development.
“Engaging in global projects transcends mere personal passion; it underscores our University's unwavering commitment to cross-cultural education and collaboration,” Capel said. “Through the Fulbright Specialist Program, I also aim to inspire both our undergraduate and graduate students, emphasizing the core principles of service and knowledge exchange.”
Dr. John Recchiuti, professor of history, also serves as an expert consultant on the roster of the Fulbright Specialist Program with the Fulbright Association, in concert with the U.S. State Department’s Bureau of Education and Cultural Affairs. Recchiuti will serve on the specialist roster until April 2026 and will be paired with host institutions overseas, sharing expertise and gaining international experience while bringing national and international recognition to Mount Union.
