May 19, 2026

COLUMBUS, Ohio — In recognition of their award-winning work in the field of electrical engineering, the University of Mount Union student chapter of the International Electrical and Electronics (IEEE) Microwave Theory and Technology Society (MTT-S) was honored with a Senate Resolution by State Senator Jane Timken.

The team, comprised of Emily Borroni, Glauco Filho Fontgalland, Logan Gunderman, Thomas Elliott, Jack Davis and Daniel Foltz, was named the best student IEEE MTT-S student chapter in America in October of 2025. The chapter is advised by Dr. Glauco Fontgalland, associate professor of computer and electrical engineering at Mount Union.

“I am without words to describe the joy and honor to receive this Resolution from Senator Jane Timken,” Filho Fontgalland said in a social media post. “This could not have been done without the dedication and motivation of some of the most amazing engineers I’ve worked with in my team and advisor.”

Along with this recognition from the Ohio Statehouse, Fontgalland and Mount Union’s computer and electrical engineering students are benefiting from additional support. The chapter received eight nanoVNA educational kits from the IEEE MTT-S, valued at approximately $1,000, and the Mount Union Ham Radio Club received a nearly $4,000 equipment donation from Dr. Jim Wilson.
