Mount Union Launching New Sports Media Major

December 03, 2025

ALLIANCE — Resulting from its established strength in business programming and tradition of success in athletics, the University of Mount Union is adding a program in sports media to its academic offerings beginning in the fall of 2026.

The sports media program is designed for students interested in working in front of or behind the camera to cover a wide range of athletics. The unique curriculum will aid in developing in-demand skills such as content creation, on-air best practices, social media analytics and audio/video editing while learning from experts in the field.

Named one of the best schools for college athletics in America, the sports media major will offer students hands-on opportunities to broadcast and produce live games from Mount Union’s 23 sports teams and varsity esports team.

The program joins Mount Union’s existing offerings in media, sport business and marketing, where several University alumni have gone on to work at major media outlets covering the most notable teams in the country.

“We have incredible sports programs at Mount Union, and I think this major will let students to be part of that tradition in really new and exciting ways,” said. Dr. Adelina Cooper, associate professor and chair of Mount Union’s Department of Visual Arts and Media. “From their first semester, we’re planning that they’ll be behind the camera, on the mic, and inside the production environment of as many of our live college sports events as possible.”
